If you have questions or comments about the IDC School feel free to ask it here and I will answer it as best I can. For those IDC's out there, we are looking for more students. We need qualified students who have a strong academic background and a strong desire to be an IDC. Nearly 1/2 of our attrites are due to personal problems and not academics. If you are sending someone who has medical or family problems, they usually don't make it. If the potential student has been in a war zone, always ensure they do not have PTSD. Many of our students struggle with PTSD issues and usually don't make it through the program. If a student has personality issues, they tend to struggle. We disenrolled a student a week before he was to graduate because of discipline/disrespect issues and come to find out they had a bad history with "Chiefs". "They are always picking on me." Yes the school is tough, but once you graduate, you will know that you can do the job and you will have the confidence and competence to do the job well. V/R HMCM (SW) R. C. HM1 Baisden,
I have been looking for IDC's with Shipboard experience. I get lots of request from the FMF Side and have a fair share of those here. My objective is to keep a broad scope of IDC's here. FMF, SW, SCW, NSW, EXW etc...so the students can ask the different flavor of IDC's questions. If you are interested in instructing, I can send you a questionairre that I have all candidates send in. Email me and I'll forward that to you.
I'm not opposed to first term IDC's coming back here to teach, however I am looking for a couple of Surface guys right now.

HMCM,
Hope all is well in lovely San Diego! I have been out here recruiting for our community and I have some good sailors that within the next year will be stellar IDC candidates. Just a question for you how is the school looking as far as instructors go? Secondly what is your opinion of single tour IDC'S retuning to teach? I know when I was there we had a couple of instructors that were there after the completion of the 1st tour. I love to teach and if that option is available I would like to do IDC over HM "A" school. Just wondering how you see it. I would be coming with a 15 month tour in Bahrain and 24 months with the Marines. Thanks for your time and input! Im sure Ill catch a lot of slack from the rest of those salty IDC'S out there but i had to ask!

Losgatos, It's good to hear
Losgatos,
It's good to hear you have lots of Clinical experience, that will be helpful for you. Uniform requirements, we have the students wear mostly the Utility Uniform. You can wear the black and tans. We do however do a semi-annual uniform inspection, 1 in the spring in dress whites, one in the fall in dress blues. As far as numbers of uniforms, however many you think you will need to keep a neat and professional appearance.
Also the books you want to study if you have access to are the Anatomy and Physiology book by Thibodeau and Patton. We cover every chapter. Also work on Medical Terminology, many students struggle because they don't know basic medical terminology such as -ectomy, -otomy, -ostomy, etc... NKO has some Med Term courses I believe, also you can look on line for Med Term courses that are free.
We are using the "Mosby's Guide to Physical Exams" for our Physical Diagnosis course, both of the books are 6th editions.
See you when you get here.

HM1 Napier,
How are things going out there? Hopefully we gave you the tools you need to succeed. Yes I would like to increase the length of the program but that all cost money and money is in short supply right now for everyone. I have a "Talking Paper" put together to discuss lengthening the program specifically in the areas of admin and computer programs such as AHLTA, TORIS/TFOM, IMR Reporting etc.. or any other type that may help the IDC to better perform their job. Also looking at restructuring Supply because it seems that many of the IDCs struggle with the supply stuff. My objective would be to add 6 weeks to the program, mostly admin type of courses.
Take care

HMCM,
Good day. Before I left in Jan 2009 there was talk about extending the school to teach more about being an SMDR on a ship. I was wondering if that was going to be entertained at some point.

I have been accepted to IDC school for the end of Summer. I'm currently working at MARFORPAC in Hawaii, but most of my entire career has been with the Marines, a very large chunk of it with Division. So with that being said, what are the basic uniform requirements that I will need to have on hand prior to showing up to school. I know I don't go in MARPAT cammies, so how many Black and Tans, new white jumpers and dungarees do I need ideally to get through the school.
Also is there any classes or books that any of you recommend me reviewing (but worth reviewing, because its similar to the items taught at school) prior to showing up.
I read that thread about making sure you're prepared for the school, because it kicks your butt. After the grunts I've been here at MARFORPAC for 2 1/2 years now, with two other corpsman, I am the LPO and the most senior enlisted in the BAS, we see patients on a regular basis. But being here for several years has been interesting, I am ready to move on to bigger and better things in my career path, and IDC school is on the way through that path.

HM1 Rodriguez,
We would like to send all our students through NTTC but we are limited due to billets, when the classes are given, they need to coincide with Clinical Rotations.
We usually only have 2 billets available per IDC class and that is only when it fits in with their clinical rotations. We try to get our students into NTTC who are struggling with Trauma skills.
NTTC is now a part of NOMI just like we are so we are looking at ways to incorporate more training for our Students.
Good suggestion, we are working on it.

Master Chief,
Are there any plans or is there currently a rotation to get IDC students to go through NTTC before going out to the fleet(especially FMF). I know both these programs are usually sponsored once you get to your first command, but with the tempo of deployments sometimes it's difficult to attend.
