I know that Malcolm X College in Chicago has a PA program. City Colleges of Chicago only gives a "C" grade for work experience (i.e. IDC school, Field med school, any other "C" school) and you have to retake ALL the science classes; Bio 226 and 227 A&P, Microbiology, Organic Chem 1&2 or Bio Chem 212 instead of Org 2, Medical terminolgy, Statistics and get a "B" or better to go to the board at the school, plus having to take the prerequist classes for the required classes. Basically, all the science classes need to be retaken. It's been 2 1/2 years retaking classes, but finally have them done. I know there are four programs in IL, but I can only tell you about City Colleges. St Francis U in IN does have a PA course, but I dont know the requirements. Hope this helps. John

I know the University of Washington has a PA program that takes two years. It's called MEDEX. They don't give you credit or very little for military experience but they do give you extremely high priority in the application process. Last time I looked, they were specifically advertising for Hospital Corpsman. According to SMOLAA there aren't many schools that have PA programs that give credits for military training. The accreditation process won't allow many transfer or "outside" credits. Also I'm hearing right now they are possibly beginning a review of IDC curriculum to evaluate the possibility of a SOCNAV school providing the online courses needed to complete the PA and then you would complete clinicals at a local facility. Not too sure the actual status of that.

I tried numerous times to contact the people at St Francis numerous times. We were even instructed by our Chief to send our SMART and other transcripts to them, to help them to get the ball rolling, but all seems to no avail. They don't so much as reply to the emails that I have sent. I assume that the only good program available right now is still the MSC IPP (PA) option. I wish I had more info on the subject, I would be taking advantage of it myself.

I was just contacted by St Francis University. they asked me to fill out a survey and send it back. It was regarding the type of course offerings for minors, the length of courses, etc. It seems that this is moving along and might actually happen (before I retire!). As I get more information on this course, I'll keep you all informed.

George Washington University has a great Bachelors program specifically tailored for IDC's. It is my goal as well to eventually become a PA. I have listed the link below that lays out the degree program (Bachelors of Science in Health Sciences, with emphasis in Clinical Health Sciences). they accept all your IDC and SMART transcript credits and have an excellent follow-on PA program. the best part is that the courses to finish your degree are all online... so you can finish your degree even if your on deployment. this is the same program that I will be applying to when I graduate IDC School. Here's the link...

Let me know if you have any questions, I'll be more than happy to help out. My email address is listed below. If you look at the top of the web page that the link takes you to there is a POC listed. This is the GWU IDC Program coordinator, he has been very helpful for me. I am sure that he could answer many of your questions. At the bottom of the page is a link that says "click here to view the long version of this degree roadmap." this list each course you need to take to finish your degree, and each has a link for course description.

give me a buzz if you feel the need.

I have been looking at the programs and will be going to University of Texas for medical school. It looks like all the programs are basically going to make you retake a bunch. The school house sent out some stuff about a possible link to PA school but that has been a tried for years.

Sentra college does offer a pretty fast jump to RN ass. in only four months over the summer. Then you could transfer to a RN BSN for one year then on to Nurse Practioner in 9 to 12 months depending on the school. That is a really fast way of getting over to a medical practicing program. The draw back is your a nurse. The up side unlike PA you would not be required to reboard every 6 yrs. What ever route you choose I would lock in your credits with a degree from George Washington University in Health Sciences.

What is your actual link to sentra college? I have been waiting as well for new info on St. Francis University's IDC to PA program. If anyone has new info I would appreciate it. Touro University International has a IDC Bachelors Program in Health Care Management or Health Science Degree awarding you 60 college credits right off the back. It is completely online. I will be done at the end of the month with my degree.

Steve: St Francis are still attempting to get the program approved by the accrediting body, if that is apporved they will launch the BS program September 2008. The Masters will come later. You can go-to St Francis website for PA's and call them to inquire more. I have not spoke to them in a few months so hopefully they have good news.

Ms. Kemp is the best person to discuss about the prereqs for MSC-PA. http://navmedmpte.med.navy.mil/mscipp/index.cfm this website has the info you are looking for.
