I WAS THE ONE WHO STARTED THE OTHER STRING ON PORTSMOUTH AHCS / SFIDC GRADS. I'M NOT ANONYMOUS. YOU KNOW ME... I JUST FORGOT SOMETHING IMPORTANT ... UH, LIKE MY NAME!
Where did you retire to? I still remember your sign on your office door..."Common things happen more commonly"! There are a few of us from SFIDC 15(Graduated JAN 1995) on active duty.....I Know HMCS Reggie Dean is still active in Pensacola?, HMCS Brad Gallimore is in Brunswick Maine, HMCS Keith Staples is in Norfolk, HMCS Greg Davis is in Japan, HMCM Glen Mcbride is in Norfolk as well and HMC Tony Schlimm is in Bethesda......Everybody else is retired. I am stationed in Madrid Spain with NATO. Most of us will be looking to retire in the not to distant future.
Keith Staples = "BRANIAC". He was the IDC on a ship where my best friend was the SUPPO several years ago. LT Raia (a former HM, now CDR-select) was very impressed with IDCs!
Class 15 was one of my favorites. A combination of a good sense of humor, integrity and intellect and you honored me by asking me to be your guest speaker at graduation. My "50th Anniversary Class"...
Senior Staples is a stand up guy. I started off as a baby doc on a DD about 12 yrs ago and every since then I have no desire to go to IDC school. I spent the last year or so listening to that guy and is compadres in RSO, and am now sitting in IDC school. He can sure put the fire back into a person. He is a true motivator
I'd work for that guy anytime.
Just don't ell him I said that. We don't need to build him up
I remember Class 15. I am glad to see that most of you guys made it to Senior and Master there was some good IDC's in that class. I am retired in Arizona and doing a lot of hunting and fishing.
Hey Duck, I was in AHCS - 19 not many of us out there I am sure. Considering I was the most junior in class and retired in 96 after 20. I started as an HM2 and just barely had 4 years at the time, thankfully I had a slamdunk endorsement and solid clinical hands-on behind me (including lab) when applying. God, remembering Bubba Logsden just getting ready to retire and start his career as a long haired hippee freak drug salesman.
I remember you Ron, y'all were just leaving when we started in 1980. You were there I believe when I came back as an instructor in 86-89 (Supply/ 3 M ----GAG ME) and finally Pharmacy and Systemic Illnesses (everything from AIDS to Yellow Fever that didnt fit neatly anywhere else).
Now working as a Clinical Analyst for Sentara here in Norfolk. Being an analyst with SAMS for my last tour gave me a good foot in the door although no one knew what to with my type of clinical experience - "but your not a nurse and not a PA - what are you???"
Tom Tomzak was an instructor the same time I was as well,
Don Weeks I heard from thru here and is up in the great white north of NH, VT or one of them there states
Jeff Smith - ran into here in one of the hospitals - not mistaking his height and accent and he has been a RN there for some time.
OK, who else is out there from 19?

HMCS Davidson.......Good to hear you are doing well. You definatly did me a favor when you made them change my orders from 2nd MARDIV to the USS Aubrey Fitch FFG-34.....That ship was a great start for me as an IDC. I still remember you telling HMC Rogers "WHAT?? your sending HM2 Rutherford to the Marines?? He's the only Surface Warfare qualified guy in his class!! That ain't happening" . Best thing you could have done for me! Thats been 11 years ago and I don't regret one minute of going to IDC school. Made some great friends and several are still out there doing great things for the Navy.
Good to hear from you and that you are doing well. I am glad you had a good tour on the Fitch. The Perry Class Frigates are fine machines. Thanks for the kind words and for jogging an old memory.
Take care and I look forward to catching up with others on the IDC Board.
Glad to see some Portsmouth names flying around here! I am in the same boat, trying to remember my class number!! I know it was a single digit! Still going strong and living the American dream! Hey, what's up to all my fellow IDC. Just wanted to see if their are any of the old SFIDC9 classmate around. I'm presentlly station in Camp Lejeune 2D MLG, SEL in the Group Surgeon Office.
I was in SFIDC 05[/color:c2ae35a493]. I retired after 20 At NAS Kingsville, TX as a Chief. Wanted to stay longer but other pressing issues prompted my retirement.
I remember you LT Mondak. I see a few other of you as well... Soto, knew you when you were a HM1. I get to see a bunch of the "old" IDC's in my work. Pete Crawford is the CMC at NOMI. Wyatt Twilleager is in Coronado, teaching spec ops guys how to operate jet skis... Roger Bennett is retired and is now the director of the newly formed MEMA, in Maryland. Mike Rexroad is a bubblehead IDC onboard the Saipan, just to name a few and I've heard stories about several other shipmates.
I'm currently working for a company (Medical Education Technologies Inc. - METI[/color:c2ae35a493]) that provides Medical education through simulation... We manufacture simulators, including human patient simulators. We also create curriculum, set up sim centers and provide networking for sim users, among other things.
We have a few positions open for those who are or will be retired, as soon as Ken gets things straightened out on here, I'll post 'em. Any of you's guys interested in seeing the advances METI has made in medical education and simulation... give me a shout, email or phone.
Garth, glad to see you made it! Was good to meet you for this last class. Got your call, and will try and get in touch with you on Wednesday. Getting underway for some training but will be back!
LT great to hear from you and I remember well when you moved on to new and more exciting things lol. It was a pleasure then and heaing from you again now.

Anyway, I sure hope all is going well for you. I'm in twilite tour at Senior Elisted Academy....yeah..back in Newport. Recently left DDG95 (precom cmc). I visited Camp Lejeune in the summer (2006) for the first time since I left the Second Marine Division in 1986 (!?) -- It seemed so quiet. I wondered if all theMarines and their Navy corspmen were deployed?
I looked into teaching jobs in the area, and I am still looking.
Wow! I am envious that you are "hanging" at Camp Lejeune. Good on you, Senior Chief!!!
I graduated in April of 1979 from Portsmouth IDT school, a very junior HM2 but I loved medicine. Remember Bob Stonehocker and a few others who drifted off...anyone from that year still around? I am currently working as a PA in Houston Texas in Urgent Care/ER's. Bubba taught us some good stuff and mystfied us that he was still alive...
I graduated IDC School in Portsmouth 1993. I am still in for another year and I am sure like alot of people starting to wonder about transitioning to civilian life. I am currently with Naval Special Warfare and should probably be moving on, but DAMM, I love this job and keep thinking that I can grow up and join the civilian life later; but, once I move on this is something that I can never go back and do this again. Any others from Class 13 still around? Mr Mondak, I remember you well, we called you Lord Mondak and Greg Marlot you were definately the best of the Instructors during that time period for our class.
Wow,,, Bubba Logsden.. thanks for memory jog Michael T. I remember when he was suffering from HNP and he taught my class while laying on his back on a desk...too funny,, yeah he was definately a poster child for 'better living through pharmacology".
yeah an old AHCS 19 class grad here (1981. I was getting confused (easily done) when i was seeing class numbers 15 and such with grad dates in the 1990's.... Heck, i was there as an instructor (the spelling Nazi myself ) and we had classes in 30's - 40s. Good times... i enjoyed teaching, once i got rid of 3M and Supply management. Saw someone mention Greg Marlot as an instructor, i remember him as a student.
