MEMORANDUM FOR NAVY INDEPENDENT DUTY CORPSMAN AIR FORCE INDEPENDENT DUTY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN

SUBJECT: Registration in TRICARE Fundamentals Course

Thank you for allowing us to address the Independent Duty Corpsmen/Independent Duty Medical Technicians (IDT/IDMT) symposium held in Las Vegas in June. We sincerely appreciated hearing your concerns and discussing solutions to help dispel any challenges regarding use of the TRICARE benefit.

As IDC/IDMT healthcare professionals, it is your responsibility to remain knowledgeable on the full scope of TRICARE benefits available, and to clearly disseminate benefit information, options, and services to our beneficiaries as frequently as possible. Ongoing education by each of our medical technicians is essential to ensuring TRICARE communications regarding enhancements, revisions, or other factual information reaches our soldiers, airmen, sailors and their family members timely and effectively.

To this end, we strongly encourage IDC/IDMT participation in continuing education and training acquired through TRICARE University at the TRICARE website (i.e., www.tricare.mil/tricareu/). Based upon the highlighted concerns of symposium attendees, the TRICARE Fundamentals course will be particularly beneficial to our corpsmen and medical technicians in performance of their duties. I urge you to promote the receipt of this important training, and further, to informally report any noted successes or other outcomes as applicable.

We look forward to remaining of assistance for any future concerns the IDC/ IDMT may have regarding the dissemination of guidance, information, or materials that afford the greatest access to TRICARE benefit information and services.
