Thinking about joining

Hello everyone,

I have a few questions & thoughts, first & foremost let me say that I'm 25 years old & aren't asking anyone to make a decision for me or anything like that, just looking to get some brutally honest answers & input. As I said earlier I'm 25 years old & thinking about the service either navy or air force, the problems I'm facing are largely fear,in the past 6 months i've gone through about 5 or 6 jobs, never really fired from any of them just always got bored of working a mundane job or wishing I was doing something else. Now prior to this job hopping run I worked at a retail craft store for almost 10 years (was also my first job since high school) & have never even really worked a true 40 hour week, typically i work 25-35 hours depending. The thing I'm concerned about is joining & not sure if I can handle it or wimp out. Lately have been sleeping a lot on & off time (often 8-9hours or just sleeping when) bored & not eating properly as a lot of people/friends have moved on in life & I'm just blah so to speak. I've got a bit of debt to my name right now (about 9 or 10 g) but credit is still good. Anyways sorry to off on tangent about my life lol,any input is appreciated

You sound like you need to throw a wrench in your life to send it into a different direction, especially if your not eating properly. I'm not going to say this because I am in the Navy but it sounds right for you. The Air Force has a lot of good benefits, better housing, etc. but the locations of their duty stations suck compared to the Navy's. Now if you do decide to join, I'm not sure Navy Corpsman is the path you would want to take because one of the main reasons i joined was to see the world and my world site seeing has been Japan, Iraq, Afghanistan with the Marines, and right now I'm in Aghanistan again as a Medical US Adviser with the Army training the Afghan National Army and going on Patrols with them. I like doing this kind of stuff especially since being on independant duty without being an IDC is probably the best place a corpsman can ask for, and regular FMF Corpsman are the only Navy guys(that are not special ops) that actually can say they made a difference. Money isn't great as a Regular fleet marine force corpsman but if you jump into lab tech school or idc school you'll a nice chunky re-enlistment bonus, or you can be any other job and never go to iraq, go to places like thailand, hong kong, australia and still get a hefty bonus. Don't worry about wimping out, ANYONE can get through any bootcamp in any service and if you do join as a different job and get deployed to iraq, there is a 99.99999999% chance you'll be ok because you'll stay in the base. OK man hope this helped somewhat. I don't have regrets and I do think you would either.
